Beware of
overcrowded vaporetti

Sometimes the water buses (vaporetti) are so crowded that it's almost impossible to find a seat. If you have a lot of luggage, it's advisable to walk or find an alternative.
When to Visit Peak Times
Overcrowded vaporetti are a common problem, especially during peak season from April to October and on public holidays. In the mornings between 8 and 10 a.m. and in the late afternoon between 4 and 6 p.m., the vaporetti are often packed, as many locals and commuters are traveling, and tourists are moving between districts. Lines to popular islands like Murano, Burano, or the Lido are also busy throughout the day.
Alternatives to Overcrowded Vaporetti
If you want to avoid the crowds, there are several options you can consider.
Using vaporetti during off-peak hours:
If your schedule is flexible, it's best to plan your trips for lunch or early evening to avoid the busiest times.
Walking:
Many of Venice's main attractions are close together and easily accessible on foot. With a city map or navigation app, you can explore the city on your own, discovering hidden alleys and picturesque bridges. This is the most relaxing option, especially if you're traveling with a lot of luggage.
Water taxis:
For more comfort and privacy, you can take a private water taxi. Although these are more expensive than vaporetti, they offer a quick and direct journey to your destination and are especially convenient if you're traveling in a group.
Gondolas:
Although gondolas are primarily used for sightseeing, you can also use a gondola as a ferry to cross the Grand Canal at certain points where there is no bridge. These traghetti are a very affordable and authentic alternative.
If you're traveling with a lot of luggage, always keep in mind that the narrow walkways and countless bridges in Venice can make walking a challenge. In this case, it may be worth taking a water taxi for a short journey instead of struggling through the crowds with heavy suitcases.
